The world’s first “low GI’ sugar was to be launched in Canberra today, with independent tests putting the sugar’s glycemic index at 50, compared to a GI average of 65 for white sugar. University of Sydney nutritionist Prof. Jennie Brand-Miller said: “we’re not trying to say eat more sugar, but a replacement of sugar intake by this one would sound like a good idea.” A low GI diet can help the average person avoid diabetes, obesity and heart disease.
